1702. Dreaming of glory, a Spanish officer prays England will attack. When they do, he won’t be ready.
Spain and England are at war. Charles II of Spain has died with no heir. He has bequeathed his kingdom to his grand nephew, Philip d’Anjou, a member of the House of Bourbon who also happens to be the grandson of Louis XIV of France. The Bourbons now control France and the vast Spanish Empire. England, The Dutch Republic and the Archduchy of Austria, facing this change in the European balance of power, form a Grand Alliance to put a Hapsburg king on the throne of Spain.
Now, far from the European centers of power, a small town in the Caribbean Sea becomes a target. The defense of the town falls to Lieutenant Antonio de los Reyes Correa. He is proud and ambitious, but his militia is inexperienced and armed only with pikes and machetes. The battle-hardened English troops bring swords and firearms. They also have a man inside Correa’s camp.
When the reinforcements he needs fail to arrive, Correa realizes the whole town may be massacred, including his family. Only a miracle can save them now, and time is running out.
